ArchaeoGeophysics
Geophysical prospections have become a standard instrument for archaeological field research. For this reason, since 2008 the Archaeological Institute of Cologne has established with the working group "ArchaeoGeophyics" a corresponding research focus. Since then, geophysical methods have systematically been integrated into the Institutes research projects and teaching. Also, a competence network for geophysical prospections, which includes the Institute of Geophysics, has been set up in order to enable optimal use of the resources and expertise that are accessible in Cologne. The working group "ArchaeoGeophysics" disposes of the following instruments:
- Caesium-Magnetometer (Geometrics G858)
- Electrical Resistance Measuring (Geoscan RM 15 & RM 85)
- Georadar (GSSI SIR-3000), 200 and 400 Mhz antennas
