1 / 2

The Turkish-German cooperation project of the General Directorate for Antiquities and Museums in the Department of Culture of the Republic of Turkey (Museum Gaziantep) and the Architecture-Urbanism of the University of Münster has been a starting point for the investigation of ancient Doliche (Keber Tepe) since 2001. As a part of prospections and excavations that have been conducted since 2001, in which the sanctuary of Jupiter Dolichenus on the Dülük Baba Tepesi could be located, a high number of imperial architectural elements and ornaments could be documented. A first overview of the material allows the classification as monumental representative architecture of late Hellenistic - early Imperial to late Imperial times with a monumentality and quality that has so far been unknown in this region. Focus of the research is the problem of the inner, which means relative, chronology and design. In a second step, the reconstruction of the imperial sacred architecture of the sanctuary of Jupiter Dolichenus is to be undertaken.
