Schedia, Alexandria's Port on the Canopian Nile (Cooperation with the University Göttingen)

1 / 2

During the foundation of Alexandria, a 30 km long canal to the canopian Nile was constructed. Schedia, which was at first a customs and military post and later one of the most important turnover locations in Egypt, is located at the beginning of the canal. In order to get a better understanding about the settlement history, geophysical and geoarchaeological investigations as well as excavation have been conducted since 2003. A detailed analysis of the pottery tries to answer economic historic questions. After the last field work season, yearly processing campaign on the finds have been carried out.
